I am a volunteer for SFBBO and enjoy it immensely.  I report on the Great Blue Heron Colony at Vasona to San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory so they can keep counts on how herons and egrets (gulls and plovers too!) are doing in the Bay area.  I do a four hour study every month during breeding season, fill out the paper work and send it in to Anne Hanson, who is the biologist in charge of the study.  Anne than collects all the data from all the breeding colonies and sends the info to The Audubon Canyon Ranch.  I am proud to say that the Vasona Great Blue Heron Colony has made it into the Audubon Canyon Ranch Breeding Atlas. This is an honor and a thrill.....

Last year SFBBO hosted a Salute to Vasona's Great Blue Heron Day....it was a blast and thanks go to Aniko Milan (Vasona) and Sharon Miyako (SFBBO) for all their help with setting up the day.  Also, many thanks to all the volunteers who came out with their scopes so that everyone could get a great look at the chicks.

My hope is to do this day again this coming spring 2006!
